Exim Container Tracking Intervals

This product note aims to elucidate the intricacies of how the system refreshes the tracking information for each shipment being tracked throughout its lifecycle. This document is crafted to help you comprehend how we fetch and update tracking information for your ocean shipments, ensuring you have all the necessary insights to leverage our product effectively.

Overview of Shipment Tracking Intervals

Our Shipment Tracking Dashboard is designed to provide you with up-to-date and accurate tracking information for your ocean shipments. To achieve this, we update tracking information at regular intervals. These intervals are influenced by two primary factors:

  1. The specific shipping line or carrier.

  2. The current stage of the shipment in its lifecycle.

Dynamic Tracking Update Intervals

The frequency of tracking updates is dynamically adjusted based on the shipment’s progress through its lifecycle and the capabilities of the carrier involved. This ensures that you receive the most relevant and timely information possible.

Lifecycle Stages and Corresponding Update Frequencies

  1. Pre-Transit Stage:

    • Description: This stage encompasses the period from when the shipment is booked until it is loaded onto the vessel.

    • Update Frequency: Every 6 hours. Frequent updates are crucial at this stage to monitor critical milestones such as booking confirmations, documentation processing, and loading schedules. This helps in managing and addressing any potential issues early.

  2. In-Transit Stage:

    • Description: This stage covers the time during which the shipment is on the ocean, en route to its destination.

    • Update Frequency: Every 12 - 24 hours. During this phase, significant changes are less likely to occur rapidly, hence a moderate update frequency ensures you stay informed without overloading the system with unnecessary requests.

  3. Pre-Arrival Stage:

    • Description: This stage starts when the vessel approaches the destination port.

    • Update Frequency: Every 6 hours. Increased frequency is necessary to monitor the arrival schedule, unloading processes, and customs clearance, which are critical to ensuring timely delivery.

  4. Post-Arrival Stage:

    • Description: This final stage occurs after the shipment is unloaded from the vessel and involves final checks and delivery to the consignee.

    • Update Frequency: Every 6 hours. Frequent updates during this phase are vital for tracking final delivery milestones and promptly addressing any issues that may arise.

Carrier-Specific Update Intervals

Different carriers offer varying capabilities for providing tracking updates. Our system is designed to adapt to these differences, ensuring that you receive the best possible tracking information based on the carrier’s capabilities.

  1. High-Frequency Carriers:

    • Update Frequency: Every 4 hours. These carriers can provide frequent updates, and our system aligns with their capabilities to offer you timely information.

  2. Moderate-Frequency Carriers:

    • Update Frequency: Every 12 to 24 hours. For these carriers, our system adjusts the update frequency to match their provided data intervals, ensuring a balance between timeliness and system efficiency.

  3. Low-Frequency Carriers:

    • Update Frequency: Every 24 hours. These carriers typically offer less frequent updates, and our system schedules updates accordingly to ensure you still receive timely information without unnecessary requests.

Handling Tracking Failures

We understand that sometimes tracking information may fail to update due to various reasons such as network issues, carrier data delays, or other unforeseen circumstances. To manage this, we have implemented a robust retry mechanism to ensure continuity and reliability.

  1. Initial Retries: If a tracking fetch attempt fails, our system will automatically retry up to 20 times at the regular interval. This ensures multiple attempts to retrieve the necessary information without immediate deprioritization.

  2. Deprioritization: If the tracking fetch continues to fail after 20 consecutive retries, the shipment will be deprioritized. This is a measure to maintain overall system efficiency and prevent excessive resource consumption.

  3. Extended Interval: For shipments that have been deprioritized, our system will retry fetching the tracking information after an extended interval of 48 hours. This allows time for any underlying issues to be resolved while ensuring that the shipment is still monitored periodically.

We hope this detailed explanation helps you in leveraging our product to its fullest potential. Should you have any further questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our support team. We are here to help you succeed.
